History Day at MTU
----Forwarded message below-----
From: Jane Nordberg [jlnordbe@mtu.edu]
Subject: History Day timing
Hello History Day participants!
We are looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday, March 20 at the
Memorial Union Building on the Michigan Technological University campus
for the District 1 competition for National History Day.
This year’s National History Day theme of "Innovation in
History" has proven to be one that inspires great variety, from the
Portage Lake Lift Bridge to roller coasters, from thalidomide to the
pasty. As always, we look forward to learning a great deal from
District 1’s young historians.
Breakfast of fruit, coffee and hot chocolate will be provided in the
morning, and lunch of pizza, salad and ice cream sundaes will be
provided in the afternoon. This will be set up in the MUB Commons on the
first floor and meals are open to all volunteers, sponsors, teachers and
student participants. Please note that we cannot feed anyone who is not
directly participating in the competition.
When you arrive, please register with History Day organizers on the
third floor of the Memorial Union Building to receive your name tag and
further instructions.
TIMING:
9:15 a.m.: student registration (3rd Flr.), fruit and coffee in MUB
commons, student set-up
9:30 a.m.: judges’ orientation (all judges should attend)
10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. entry judging and judges’ deliberation
11:15 a.m. to Noon: lunch in MUB commons (not open to public)
Noon to 12:30 p.m.: community showcase (open to public)
12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.: awards ceremony and closing remarks
All participants are encouraged to spread the word about the community
showcase; our students work so hard on these projects and they deserve
as much attention as we can give them.
If you have any questions in this final week of preparations, please let
me know at jlnordbe@mtu.edu
