Ms. Markham was born in Flint, Mi long ago and moved to Grand Blanc when she was in first grade. She used to be active in her church’s youth group as well as Explorers, a co-ed branch of boy scouts. After graduating from high school in Grand Blanc, she attended Michigan Technological University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1981. Ms. Markham wanted to stay in this area, so she went back to MTU to obtain her teaching certificate in 1984. She has worked in many different positions, from Tot-Lot to college since that time. Before coming to Chassell Schools, she taught and tutored at Finlandia University for nine years (then Suomi College). She worked at Head Start developing the Great Explorations program and at Finlandia creating their Science Methods course for elementary teachers. Besides teaching at Chassell, Ms. Markham also has been teaching for Gogebic Community College in the evenings.
“I like being outdoors more than being indoors and that means field trips if possible. I really like gardening and canning, camping, boating, swimming and snorkeling, traveling, cooking, and many arts and crafts. Some of my favorite places include Misery Bay, Isle Royale, Copper Harbour, Hawaii, and Mexico. “

We will be starting a nanotechnology enterprise at Chassell. This involves learning about nanotechnology and the microscopes that resolve to the nanometer range. We will take a few field trips to MTU to lean how to use the AFM and STM microscopes. Then we need to make a working model of the microscope using legos and the Mindstorm kits. Programming it to work should be interesting. Hopefully, by April 15th we will participate in the MTU EXPO, showcasing our model. |
